Desperate drivers: the silent uprising of the truckers in Gräfenhausen

MMore than 140 blue trucks are parked on the left and right of the autobahn, 40 of them at the Gräfenhausen Ost service area. Your drivers are mostly Uzbeks and Georgians, plus some Kazakhs and Tajiks. The service area is a labyrinth of trucks, narrow aisles lead past throbbing engines to open loading hatches behind which more men are sitting on more improvised benches. If another truck crowds into the rest area, the big maneuvering begins: men whistle and wave, the labyrinth canyons between the black tires narrow.

And there have been more and more trucks since the protests began more than two and a half weeks ago, and there are already more than twice as many as in spring, when Mazur drivers protested against embezzled payments at this service area.
