1 – Give up your cravings
Whether designing a small hallway, a small bedroom or a small bathroom, the first rule is to think practical. It is obvious that you must have the essential functional elements – in this case, the sink, a shower or a bathtub, storage and possibly a toilet. It is also a question of arranging these elements well in order to be able to circulate in a fluid way. . However, it is not a question of completely ignoring your desires!
We often hear that the shower is essential in the small bathroom. It is not an absolute rule. A bathtub can quite find its place in a small space, even if it means investing the corner of the room.
2 – Forgetting to structure the space
The first instinct in a small space is often to cram everything you need to cram in, without really thinking about structuring the room. Here is the best way to create an impression of permanent chaos: not great for the bathroom, where you are supposed to take care of yourself, but also relax!
Properly structuring the space makes your bathroom warmer. And even if it is not very big, you will take more pleasure in spending time there. Claustra and partition must be used with care. To create a small, well-organized and very cocooning bathroom, bet instead on color and wall covering.
3 – Choose standard furniture and equipment
Washbasin, shower, bathtub and bathroom furniture are generally available in standard sizes. It’s tempting to adopt them straight away – especially since they offer you a wide choice of designs and colors. In a small bathroom, however, this is a mistake that can greatly complicate your life! To optimize the space while having everything you need, it is better to opt for furniture and equipment with smaller dimensions.
In a small bathroom, we therefore favor compact pieces, and we pay attention to their width, as well as their depth: narrow pieces of furniture are perfect for freeing up more space to circulate.
4 – Choosing the wrong lighting
Nothing worse than not seeing in the bathroom! However, a small bathroom often has no window, or very little natural light. It is therefore more than ever necessary to choose your lighting fixtures with care. Even in a small room, it is recommended to combine two lights: a ceiling light or recessed spotlights for the whole room and wall lights for the mirror.
The lighting in the room should be functional without being aggressive. The good idea is to favor diffuse lighting – for example by adopting frosted glass. To shave as to put on makeup, it is important to see clearly. White light, close to natural light, is therefore recommended.
5 – Neglect certain exploitable surfaces
In a small room, the wall surface is a valuable ally for storing storage. It goes without saying that this is also the case in a small bathroom! But it would be a shame to stop there…
To take advantage of a maximum of space in your small bathroom, the secret is to exploit the smallest exploitable square centimeter, which also includes the surface of the door of the room or furniture, the facade of the storage column , or even the surface of the shower screen.
We also think about organizing cupboards and drawers, in order to take full advantage of the available storage space.
6 – Clutter the available plans
It’s one thing to use all the available space in a small bathroom. It’s quite another to clutter the space! Also, beware of the temptation to overload flat surfaces, in particular the top of the washbasin: this is the best way to knock everything down at the slightest gesture that is a little too lively!
If it is smart to invest in a mirror with a shelf and in shelves, we therefore choose carefully the elements that we place there – and we make sure that they are not too many!
7 – Create an impersonal atmosphere
White is known to be the color to favor in a small bathroom. A luminous shade par excellence, white has the advantage of creating an extremely peaceful atmosphere. Unfortunately, she can also be cold and impersonal.
Wood, textiles or a touch of color: there are many ways to warm up the white bathroom. To benefit from a cozy atmosphere, think about it when furnishing your small bathroom!
Contrary to popular belief, white is far from your only option. Pale green or light blue are among the trendy colors for 2023, and they are also among the colors that make a small room look bigger.
By definition, a warm color warms up the bathroom. In a small space, think of nude: this very trendy pinkish beige is warm while remaining light and luminous.
