A young woman is said to have drowned her baby in a sink in Central Franconia. That’s why she has had to answer for manslaughter before the district court in Nuremberg since Wednesday. Prosecutors accuse the 27-year-old of killing her four-month-old daughter in the bathroom of her apartment in June. Then she is said to have cut her wrists and called the emergency services.
According to the indictment, the woman suffered from a depressive disorder after the birth. A placement in a psychiatric hospital is therefore an option. The defendant has been there temporarily since her arrest.
According to a court spokeswoman, the German did not comment on the allegations on the first day of the trial. The defense previously requested that the public be barred from the hearing. However, the Chamber rejected this. Police officers were to testify as witnesses in the afternoon.
A psychiatric expert is also present at the trial. He should assess to what extent the accused is guilty and whether it is necessary to continue treating her in a psychiatric clinic.
