Depression and mental health problems: When young people need help

More young people are still suffering from depression and other mental health problems than before the pandemic. How can you help them? The psychologist and health scientist Ulrike Ravens-Sieberer calls for low-threshold support in schools.

Prof. Ravens-Sieberer, you and your colleagues are one of the very few working groups worldwide to have examined the psychological state of children and young people during the pandemic to date. How is their mental health?

By 2023, twice as many children and young people as before the pandemic said they were mentally stressed: 28 instead of 15 percent. Some of them felt so bad that they became ill. And that’s because young people’s lives collapsed during the pandemic.
