Depeche Mode keyboardist Andy Fletcher dies

Andrew Fletcher, keyboardist and founding member of British synth-pop band Depeche Mode, has died at the age of 60. The band announced this on Twitter. “We are shocked and filled with immense sadness at the untimely death of our dear friend, family and band member Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher,” she wrote Thursday night. More detailed information about the death of the musician did not initially exist.

The band’s statement continued: “Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh or a cold beer. Our hearts go out to his family and we ask that you, in Thinking of her and respecting her privacy at this difficult time.”

Fletcher, best known by his nickname “Fletch”, was born in Nottingham in 1961. In the late 1970s he formed the band Composition Of Sound with Martin Gore and Vince Clarke – which eventually became Depeche Mode when singer Dave Gahan joined.
