It is a text that never ceases to shake the French cultural scene. This Thursday, December 28, it’s Sophie Marceau who is stepping up to the plate. The one who played alongside Gérard Depardieu in the film “Police” in 1985 explains in the columns of Paris Match why she never wanted to share the poster of a film with the actor again. “I said publicly at the time that I could not stand his rude and very inappropriate attitude,” recalls the woman who is now 55 years old. “Many people then turned against me, making me look like the little pest . And I always refused films with him afterwards.”

“I’m not going to give him the perch or bury him”

Last July, Sophie Marceau returned to the filming period she shared with Gérard Depardieu. The actress – who was then 18 years old – then spoke of a “traumatic” experience. This states that the person concerned would have immediately tried to establish a “power relationship” with the film teams. During certain love scenes, Gérard Depardieu, according to Sophie Marceau, placed his hands on the actress under the sheets: gestures which, according to the actress, were not mentioned in the film’s script. “He never dared to touch me in front of the team, otherwise he would have received my fist in the face,” she confided last July.

Today, Sophie Marceau refuses to push the actor: “Now, with the relentlessness he knows, it would be too easy. Because everyone laughed with him, everyone loved him for that, everything the world applauded for who he was. And everyone found it normal! […] What is certain is that women are now speaking. Whether you’re Gérard Depardieu, or Maurice Pialat, you don’t treat people like that, period. […] Vulgarity and provocation have always been his stock in trade.”

According to the actress, Gérard Depardieu attacked “the great actresses” much less than the “little assistants”: “Today, we accuse him of what we praised him for,” says the fifty-year-old. I’m not going to give him the perch or bury him. I’ve been asked so many times to testify against him everywhere. Obviously I didn’t do it.” Asked about the French tendency to “burn the idols we have adored”, Sophie Marceau punctuates: “I don’t know if it’s French. But what is certain is that now women are speaking”.
