As an actor, he hardly sees any challenges for himself, so Denzel Washington is thinking aloud about retiring.

You can’t really tell by looking at him, but Denzel Washington will be 67 years old on December 28th. Classic retirement age. Indeed, the actor is now considering retirement – at least as a performer.

In one Conversation with “Entertainment Tonight” the star said literally that he was now in the fall of his career. “To be completely honest, I want to do other things,” Washington said of acting. If he were to take on a role, it would have to be a special part. “It has to be an extreme challenge to be interested,” said the two-time Oscar winner.

He is currently in negotiations with two top-class directors. As an actor, however, there is not much left for him to do. Except maybe King Lear from William Shakespeare, the great age role for any actor.

Washington presents two new films

Washington naming King Lear is no accident. The actor is currently promoting his new film, the Shakespeare adaptation “The Tragedy of Macbeth” by director Joel Coen (67). Washington plays the title role alongside Frances McDormand (64). As Macbeth, the performer is a hot favorite for an Oscar nomination. It would be his ninth as an actor. Only a few male colleagues have achieved so many honors, only Jack Nicholson (12 nominations), Laurence Olivier (10) and Spencer Tracy, Paul Newman and Al Pacino with 9 each.

“The Tragedy of Macbeth” will be released on December 25, 2021. On the same day, “A Journal for Jordan” will also be in theaters. The drama starring Michael B. Jordan (34) is Washington’s fourth job as a director. His cinematic future could therefore lie behind the camera.
