Fire in one of Copenhagen’s oldest buildings. The police have cordoned off the area. The cause of the fire is still unclear.

The historic stock exchange Copenhagen is in flames. The spire of the building collapsed due to the fire. Several streets and the area around the building are cordoned off, as the police announced on X. Heavy smoke and high flames can be seen from the building. Copenhagen police expect the area to remain cordoned off for a long period of time.

The cause of the fire is still unclear. The building was completed in 1625 with a church tower and is one of the oldest buildings in Copenhagen. The building is currently being restored and is therefore scaffolded. The restoration is intended to correct an improper renovation of the building in the 19th century and restore the facade to its original appearance.
