After a defective rocket launcher on a frigate in Denmark caused a closure in the Great Belt, the area has now been reopened. According to the Ministry of Defense, there is no risk of an accidental firing.
The technical problem with a defective rocket launcher on a military ship in the port of Korsör in Denmark has been resolved. There is no longer any danger that the rocket launcher on board the Danish frigate “Niels Juel” will fire a projectile, the Defense Ministry said.
On Thursday, specialists took care of the rocket launcher, which suddenly could no longer be deactivated after a mandatory test. The experts checked, among other things, whether it was an activation of the launcher or an electronic error message.
Denmark blocked ship passage
Because of the incident, there was a risk that a rocket could be fired for several hours on Thursday afternoon. The crews of ships moving towards the danger zone have been warned and asked to wait until the problem is resolved. The airspace in this area was also closed.
According to the Defense Ministry, the danger area was an estimated five to seven kilometers from the Korsör naval base on the Great Belt, i.e. near the junction of the North and Baltic Seas. The strait is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
