The Danish national soccer player Christian Eriksen has been infected with the corona virus. Therefore he cannot celebrate his comeback with the national team on Monday.

Christian Eriksen, Danish international and player at English FC Brentford, has tested positive for the corona virus. This was announced by the Danish Football Association DBU on Twitter. Therefore, the 30-year-old cannot rejoin the national team on Monday as planned. Actually, his comeback in the Danish national team was planned for Monday. However, it is expected that this can be made up for in the course of the coming week.

Unclear if Christian Eriksen can play against Netherlands

“We have been in constant contact with Christian and Brentford about the situation. We expect to see Christian as soon as possible during the week. We are delighted to have him in the team and expect to see him in the exciting friendlies against the Netherlands and Serbia to be there,” said national coach Kasper Hjulmand.

Eriksen has not played for the Danish national team since his high profile circulatory collapse in Denmark’s match against Finland during last year’s European Football Championship. He recently made his comeback on the pitch at Premier League club Brentford, where he has a contract until the summer.

Hjulmand has selected Eriksen for the forthcoming internationals as he recovered quickly and is fit again after his cardiac arrest at Copenhagen’s Parken stadium last summer. Because of his health condition, it was unclear for a long time whether Eriksen could play for the Danish national football team again.

The two friendlies are scheduled to be played on March 26 and 29 respectively. It is still unclear whether Eriksen can play the first game against the Netherlands.
