Demining operation on the island of Yeu after the discovery of a shell

Unusual and disturbing discovery for a walker, Saturday afternoon, on the island of Yeu, off the Vendée. An explosive device was indeed discovered near Ker Chauvineau, in the center of the island, about two kilometers from the pier. The bomb is just under a meter long.

A security perimeter has been set up by the gendarmerie. Security services confirmed it was a mortar shell likely from World War II, reports West France.

Given its potential danger, it must be neutralized using a specific operation. The demining intervention must take place at the beginning of the week. Shells from the 1939-1945 war are regularly unearthed on the Atlantic coast.
