Delivery services: Drones will soon replace pizza delivery services in Seattle – Panorama

The job of a pizza delivery boy is supposed to be nice? Yeah, about as nice as kicking in old chewing gum. This has been known since the film “Kevin – Alone at Home” at the latest. In it, the actually quite likeable eight-year-old leading actor orders a pizza. When the messenger hurrying to him knocks on Kevin’s locked door, a menacing voice can be heard from inside. It only comes from the TV, which the messenger can’t see, and that’s why Kevin turns the TV up to maximum volume. On the television, a man punches his silent counterpart and opens fire with a gun. The pizza delivery guy puts the box down and runs away in panic. And Kevin? Enjoys his dinner, which is now free thanks to his prank.

The film is from 1990, and for a long time now many a single-family home resident has been showing respect towards the working class. Hardly anything has changed in the job characteristics of the pizza delivery boy. They often fall, earn little, and they constantly complain: too cold, too limp, “IS THAT PINEAPPLE?!” You can only romanticize the pizza delivery boy as a cult student job if you have never sat on an e-bike for eight hours in a constant drizzle and should smile for a tip of 24 cents. How wonderful it is that this job may soon no longer exist.

CNBC recently reportedthat the US drone manufacturer Zipline intends to deliver pizza by air in the greater Seattle area in the future. A special box has been developed together with a local pizza chain, two pizzas with a diameter of 33 centimeters each fit into it. In the future, pizza delivery men could remotely monitor delivery by drone while sitting warm and dry. If the pizza delivered in this way is too cold or too soggy, you can continue to react. But then on a possibly well-fortified metal box.
