To combat clan crime, there were large-scale controls in cities in the Ruhr area. At the same time, an operation was underway in the capital.

In the Ruhr area and in Berlin there have been raids in connection with the fight against Clan crime given. During large-scale checks in the Ruhr area, live ammunition and slot machines, among other things, were seized. According to the police, shisha bars, cafes and arcades were searched. According to the information, there were a total of ten properties in Herten, Bottrop and Gladbeck. In addition to the police, customs, tax investigations, public order offices and the immigration office were also involved in the large-scale checks.

Several bars were also checked in Berlin-Neukölln. Around 50 kilograms of untaxed water pipe tobacco were discovered, the police said. In addition, several cases of undeclared work and irregular cash management were identified. The raid was carried out jointly by the police, public order office, customs and the tax office in seven restaurants, it was said. A total of around 35 police forces were involved. The “BZ” had previously reported on it.

The term clan crime is controversial because, according to critics, it stigmatizes and discriminates against people with a migrant background based solely on their family affiliation and origin.

Protection of people should be ensured

“We want to improve people’s sense of security – and this also means that we regularly take action against possible residences and retreats of criminal groups. The importance has now been confirmed again by the extension of the SiKo Ruhr,” said Recklinghausen’s police chief Friederike Zurhausen.

The security cooperation to combat clan crime (SiKo), a department that is unique in the country according to the NRW Interior Ministry, was extended a few days ago until at least 2030. North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) wants to use the project to “continue to undermine the clan criminals”. The Siko Ruhr started in 2020 as part of the so-called Ruhr Conference. The state government’s initiative with numerous projects is intended to give the Ruhr metropolis a boost.

During the searches in North Rhine-Westphalia, several criminal charges were filed on suspicion of illegal gambling, violations of the Narcotics Act, suspicion of illegal residence and traffic offenses. Several kilos of untaxed tobacco and untaxed cigarette sticks were also seized. There were no arrests.
