The singer says he never wants to run after a fashion. On the contrary: he advocates doing his own thing.

The singer of the rock band Deep Purple, Ian Gillan, does not want to follow a trend. “One thing that we learned in the first few days is to avoid fashions at all costs,” said the 76-year-old of the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”.

«If you’re hip today, you’re out tomorrow. So be true to yourself and do what feels natural, ”said Gillan.

«What was uncool in the 70s was live albums. They were considered a cheap thing that you did when you had nothing else to offer, ”said the 76-year-old bassist Roger Glover. “But we changed our mind and produced a cool live album with” Made In Japan “.”

The band released an album with only cover versions in November. Including rock songs, but also blues and country tracks by Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. The songs were chosen out of respect for the original, said Gillan. “It was a great opportunity for us to give the pieces a purple note.” The British are coming to Germany on tour in 2022.
