What if we did without the tree?
Questions surrounding the environmental impact and the search for sustainable solutions occupy an increasingly central place in decoration – including for Christmas. This is undoubtedly at the origin of the “no tree” trend.
Concretely, we replace the traditional tree with a natural alternative, by opting for a bouquet of branches placed in a pretty vase or in a basket, or we decorate one of our indoor plants.
The alternative is a tree in a DIY spirit. The wall model is the most versatile, since it lends itself to all decorations – and therefore resists all trends. So you can count on it for many years.
If the tree tends to become rarer, the motif of the fir does not disappear from the decoration – quite the contrary! In wood, ceramic, folded paper… We love scale models! And for a truly magical atmosphere, don’t hesitate to collect, mixing designs and materials.
For fans of the traditional tree, the high-end artificial model is all the rage. Whether you opt for an authentic model or a beautiful imitation, on the other hand, this year it is a question of paying particular attention to the choice of decorations. We therefore get rid of everything that is “cheap”, starting with the garlands – with the notable exception of LED light garlands.
Nature spirit and DIY inspiration
The decorations are also in tune with a very natural Christmas!
Already very present in recent years, folded paper decorations are establishing themselves as essentials.
One of the trendy materials of 2024, papier-mâché is coming for the holidays. The most skilled can even create their own decorations!
This year, DIY Christmas decorations are indeed top trendy. If you don’t have any particular talent for creative hobbies, opt for kits or kraft decorations.
The key material for 2023 Christmas decorations? The straw, undoubtedly! We adopt it as a total look or in association with more delicate decorations, in blown glass for example.
To make our DIYs, we use the branches and foliage we have on hand, without necessarily limiting ourselves to the tree.
White Christmas… really?
This year, from the tree to the New Year’s Eve table, white is shaping up to be the flagship color of Christmas decor.
To give the decor a more festive look, highlight the white with a touch of silver, for a frosty Christmas spirit, or a touch of gold, for a more refined atmosphere.
Blue is the other color to reckon with for the holidays. Canon associated with white, it harmonizes perfectly with decorations in straw or wood.
Browns, which have made a remarkable return to the forefront of the decoration scene since the start of the school year, are unsurprisingly making their way into Christmas decor.
Fan of a traditional Christmas? Red and forest green remain the holiday icons!
Let the “unbridled colors” team rest assured: Christmas 2023 does not look so good – and neither does the decor! And if minimalist decor remains very current, it is just as trendy to take the opposite view, focusing in particular on pink and purple, as well as yellow.
To add a little twist to the Christmas decor, we have fun selecting offbeat patterns, especially when it comes to hanging ornaments.
Aerial, delicate and perfectly catching the light: in transparent or colored version, blown glass decorations are one of the essentials for Christmas decor 2023.
The reason that is truly all the rage? The mushroom, which we hang in a prominent place on the tree!
What atmosphere should you choose to celebrate New Year’s Eve?
Minimalist, extravagant or traditional: whatever look appeals to you, the important thing is to feel at home, and to create a comforting, intimate and warm atmosphere.
If you love a minimalist atmosphere, consider sprucing up the living room with cozy throws and cushions.
At the table or in decoration, the classic tartan pattern remains a safe bet. However, we opt for mix and match by introducing a few pieces with a more refined look – here a very sober table service, to modernize it.
Conversely, if you want to bring out your most refined tableware, opt for example for a very simple linen tablecloth to highlight it.
