December aid: the federal government begins paying out to utilities

Status: 01.12.2022 15:02

In December, the federal government takes over the payments on account for gas and district heating customers. You don’t have to do anything for this. Companies have to submit applications – 75 percent of energy suppliers have done so so far.

As part of the December emergency aid for gas and heat customers, the federal government has begun paying out reimbursements to energy suppliers. Since the start of the application in mid-November, around 75 percent of the energy suppliers have submitted such applications. Since many have already been checked, the payments started on December 1st, the Federal Ministry of Economics announced.

Further applications would be made and checked every day – a total of around 1500 gas and heat supply companies are entitled. To relieve the high energy costs, there is a one-off payment for gas and district heating customers in December – at least for those who have a direct contract with a utility company. You are exempt from the down payment or receive a credit note.

Consumers do not have to submit applications

If tenants regulate the supply through their landlords, the December relief will be passed on with the next annual heating bill. Households and small businesses should benefit. These do not have to “do anything”, as the ministry emphasized again, an application is not necessary. The utilities regulate the relief for their part directly with the state.
