The debate about the history and meaning of the past starboss Henri Nannen leaves you at a loss, it’s so sub-complex. It thus becomes a sad example of a history debate that is neither interested in history nor in debates. Now it is taking its revenge that the historical enlightenment about National Socialism, about the Second World War and the mass murder of European Jews in this country was simply ended at some point. Popular, understandable and easily accessible representations of the time, for example in television series such as the Holocaust or cinema films such as Schindler’s List, are many decades old. Since then, routine symbolic politics and empty phrases have replaced thorough information. The result is a disappointing historical weakness in judgement.
