Deaths after severe storms in the US state of Tennessee

At least six people were killed in severe storms in the US state of Tennessee. A tornado left a path of destruction in the city of Clarksville. The power went out in thousands of households.

At least six people have died in severe storms in the US state of Tennessee. Three people died in the capital Nashville, according to the city’s situation center.

Three other people, including a child, died in Clarksville, about an hour’s drive from Nashville. A tornado swept through the town, the district administration announced. 23 people were injured and taken to hospitals. In both places, houses were partially seriously damaged and power lines were knocked down. According to authorities, around 80,000 people are without electricity.

Emergency shelters set up

Clarksville Mayor Wes Golden called it a “sad day.” Pray for all those injured and for those who have lost relatives or their homes. An emergency shelter has been set up for everyone who needs help.

City residents were asked to stay in their homes to keep the streets clear for emergency vehicles. Videos showed the tornado tearing its way through Clarksville, leaving a path of destruction in its wake.

The situation center in Nashville reported that the emergency services were still looking for injured people and getting an overview of the damage.
