A few days after the death of Rémi Fraisse, killed by a grenade thrown by a gendarme, the government suspended the use of these grenades by the police, before banning them definitively several months later.

The state will have to compensate Rémi Fraisse’s family. This is what the Toulouse administrative court decided on Thursday, November 25.

After having exhausted the remedies before the criminal justice system, the family of the 21-year-old botanist killed in 2014 in the Tarn by a grenade thrown by a gendarme, wanted “to recognize the responsibility of the State”.

In addition to requesting the commitment of the responsibility of the State, the family of Rémi Fraisse – his father, his mother, his sister and his two grandmothers had requested 75,000 euros each in compensation for their moral damage. “It is a sum that we requested symbolically, since in any case (the death of a child) it is priceless”, underlined the lawyer of the family of the young man Étienne Noël, however, deeming “ridiculous” the sum three or four times lower proposed to the court by the public rapporteur.
