A biker soldier from the departmental gendarmerie group, who belonged to the motorized brigade of Biarritz, died this Thursday morning, in a traffic accident on the departmental road D810, avenue de l’Aquitaine, in Bayonne, announces the prefecture of the Pyrenees -Atlantic.
The tragedy occurred in a collision with an ambulance. The 29-year-old victim was escorting a convoy made up of several Banque de France trucks alongside three other motorcyclists, when he allegedly swerved slightly in a curve, “hitting the ambulance which was arriving in the opposite direction”, according to the public prosecutor.
According to the public prosecutor of Bayonne, Jérôme Bourrier, “it appears that the soldier was circulating with his sound and light warning devices, while he was making a gesture towards a motorist to slow down his speed. “He then” deported slightly in a curve and hit in a frontal collision a private ambulance traveling in the opposite direction. »
