In the trial surrounding the violent death of a man in an Upper Franconian shared apartment, the 25-year-old defendant was convicted of murder. The Chamber of the Bayreuth Regional Court imposed a prison sentence of twelve years on Monday; In addition, accommodation for alcohol withdrawal was ordered. A woman who also lived in the shared apartment was also charged. The 41-year-old was sentenced to two and a half years for aiding and abetting manslaughter, a court spokeswoman said.
Last February, a walker found a badly battered body in a forest. The 48-year-old victim died after an argument with his roommates. He lived in a house with three other people in Mainleus (Kulmbach district). The court found it proven that the now convicted 25-year-old hit the victim and then took her into the forest. The man died there from his injuries.
The argument on the evening of the crime was said to have been about money and a clogged toilet. At the start of the trial in November, the impressions from life in the shared apartment were particularly shocking – alcohol consumption and violence were the order of the day.
Another roommate also played a role in the case. The public prosecutor’s office had previously announced that the investigation against him had been temporarily discontinued because he was unable to be questioned or tried for an indefinite period of time. The verdict stated that this roommate had asked the two now convicted people to get the seriously injured victim out of the house. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
