Dear readers, – your SZ

77 years Southgerman newspaper – that’s what you call a schnapps number. And since, as is well known, one should celebrate the festivals as they fall, the SZ is catching up on what unfortunately had to be canceled for her 75th birthday two years ago due to the corona pandemic. There will be a separate ceremony in Munich on October 6th, and since you, dear readers, unfortunately cannot all come, our gift to you is this supplement: a kind of workshop report about how things are going inside your daily newspaper, like you is planned, about the day for the print, how the digital and the homepage are created and how we face the numerous opportunities and challenges of digitization. What it’s like to report as a correspondent from New York or Africa, what Bayern reporters experience, what Munich’s former mayor Christian Ude, the actress Iris Berben and the head of the NS Documentation Center, Mirjam Zadoff, about the path and change of the SZ think.

Contributions by editor-in-chief Wolfgang Krach and editor-in-chief Judith Wittwer and their deputies Alexandra Föderl-Schmid and Ulrich Schäfer deal in particular with the change. And the way along these 77 years is reflected in the final part of this special, in which some famous stories and reports from the first day of the SZ, that October 6, 1945, are reprinted up to the present (and of course there are many more , many others can take). In any case, we wish you an edifying read – and we hope that you remain loyal to us.

With warmest regards
