Dealing with depictions of violence: When bad images trigger us

These days, disturbing depictions of violence from the Middle East are seeping into our timelines. We feel for those affected and are affected ourselves: some images we can’t let go of, others trigger our own negative experiences. How can we prevent them from getting stuck in our heads and causing lasting stress on us?

One of the pictures shows an empty child’s bed, the pillows soaked in blood. In another shot, a burned man can be seen lying on the ground with his face to the ground. Israeli soldiers talk blankly about beheaded women and infants.
