Fans are looking forward to new Marvel films and series. Which titles will launch in 2024? An overview.

The big Marvel Cinematic Universe stumbled a bit in 2023. After the quality of the releases had noticeably deteriorated in recent years, viewers have punished several works that were previously considered blockbusters at the box office in the past twelve months.

The third “Ant-Man” part, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, only managed to gross around 464 million US dollars worldwide – and did not become the usual Marvel goldmine that was expected.

At the end of the year, even fewer comic film fans wanted to see Oscar winner Brie Larson (34) on the big screen. “The Marvels” grossed an underground sum of just under $200 million worldwide for an MCU title, making it the lowest-grossing Marvel film in the history of the MCU to date.

Even on the series front, things only looked slightly better. For example, the mini-series “Secret Invasion,” which was eagerly awaited before its launch, starred with Marvel veteran Samuel L. Jackson (75). on the review collection site Rotten Tomatoes only a rating of 54 percent of positive reviews – that is also terribly bad.

The actor of the next Avengers opponent is fired

The Marvel misery was rounded off in December by the conviction of the new MCU star Jonathan Majors (34). The former Hollywood whiz kid was supposed to embody the big new villain Kang in phases five and six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – analogous to Thanos. But in a sensational court case, a jury in New York state found him guilty of harassment and assault. The sentence is due to be announced in February.

Marvel Studios then fired Majors. But what’s next for the Marvel films and series? Will the role of Kang be recast – or will another big villain like Doctor Doom be pulled out of the hat? Marvel boss Kevin Feige (50) will likely have his hands full in the coming weeks and months – and superhero fans are eagerly awaiting announcements and news.

Upcoming Marvel films in 2024

This difficult situation will be complicated for Feige, Marvel Studios and parent company Disney in 2024 by the recent double strike of actors and screenwriters in Hollywood. Since the production of new films and series came to a standstill in the Hollywood dream factory for a large part of the year, only one Marvel film will appear in cinemas in the next twelve months for the first time since 2012 – not counting the Corona year 2020.

Ryan Reynolds returns as Deadpool in July

But the only Marvel cinema release of the year could be quite something. Because “Deadpool 3” brings the shameful Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds (47), into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. The superhero film by director Shawn Levy (“Stranger Things”, 55) promises to be Marvel Studios’ first really bloody one – and should be released in the USA for ages 17 and up.

In the as yet untitled sequel, Reynolds receives support from Hugh Jackman (55), who once again embodies his legendary X-Men character Logan/Wolverine. Jennifer Garner (51) also stars as Elektra, while Morena Baccarin (plays Vanessa, 44) and Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead, 27) return from “Deadpool 1 and 2”. What could go wrong?

There is currently no more detailed information about the story of the new film, and there is no trailer yet. “Deadpool 3” is scheduled to appear in German cinemas on July 24, 2024.

Upcoming Marvel series 2024

Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced at the beginning of 2023 that Marvel Studios’ superhero series would appear on the Disney+ streaming service at greater intervals than before. What exactly this means for the Marvel series year 2024 remains to be seen.

A harder MCU began with “Echo” on Disney+

The Marvel series year started on January 10th with the superhero series “Echo”, a spin-off of “Hawkeye” from 2021. The spin-off about the deaf superhero Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox, 26) is the Hardest MCU show yet. That’s how it was A headshot can be seen in the trailer. So “Echo” is definitely not for children and younger teenagers.

Slightly older Marvel fans can look forward to the return of Charlie Cox (41) as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio (64) as Kingpin in the five episodes of the miniseries that have already been released in one fell swoop. In Marion Dayre’s show, antihero Echo returns to her hometown in rural Oklahoma where she has to sort out some things from her past.

Will “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” be released on Halloween?

The eagerly awaited spin-off to the successful production “WandaVision”, the first Marvel series on Disney+, will probably start in autumn or winter 2024 with “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries”. Kathryn Hahn (50) once again embodies the witch Agatha Harkness. There isn’t too much information about the plot yet. Actress Aubrey Plaza (39), known from the HBO series “The White Lotus,” among others, can be seen in another role. She also plays a witch. There is no precise start date for “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” yet.

The release of “Daredevil: Born Again” has been delayed

It is currently unclear whether Marvel fans can look forward to “Daredevil: Born Again” in 2024, the MCU remake of the legendary Netflix show about the blind lawyer and superhero Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Cox). It was originally expected to start in 2024.

But during the Hollywood strike in 2023, Marvel executives around Kevin Feige looked at the material that had already been shot and decided that the MCU series needed a realignment. Head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman were subsequently fired, as were a number of directors. “The Punisher” veteran Dario Scardapane (57) took over according to “Hollywood Reporter” the showrunner scepter.

Due to these developments, filming on “Daredevil: Born Again” has not yet been completed, which is why the superhero series could be postponed until 2025. But then Marvel fans can look forward to another bloody MCU show. Because “Daredevil: Born Again” should be in no way inferior to the Netflix series “Daredevil” in terms of severity.
