After violent attacks on Ukraine, authorities reported many deaths and injuries in several cities across the country. Dnipro is particularly affected – but there are also fatalities in Kiev, Kharkiv, Odessa and Lviv.

According to Ukrainian sources, at least 31 people have been killed across the country in a new massive wave of Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. More than 150 people were injured, Ukrainian authorities said. There were deaths in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Odessa and the capital Kiev. The power also went out in many cities. The Ministry of Energy announced that the north and south of the country would be affected.

Worst attack in a long time

In the morning, according to Ukrainian information, Russia fired more than 150 missiles and drones at targets in Ukraine. The Ukrainian air defense was able to intercept more than 70 percent of them.

Air force spokesman Jurij Ihnat said on television that they hadn’t seen so many “red enemy targets” on the monitors for a long time. “S 300” rockets, various cruise missiles and long-range drones of Iranian design were used. Around 18 strategic bombers were in the air and served as launch platforms.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj spoke on X, formerly Twitter, of around 110 rockets – most of which were fired by Ukraine. Zelensky emphasized that it was one of the worst attacks on Ukraine to date.

Apparently Russian missile in Polish airspace

According to the Polish army, a Russian missile briefly flew through the airspace of NATO member country Poland. “Everything indicates that a Russian missile has entered Polish airspace. We tracked it on the radar and left the airspace again,” said Chief of General Staff Wieslaw Kukula. According to the information, the rocket was in Polish airspace for about three minutes and traveled 40 kilometers.

Dead and injured in Kyiv

At least nine people were killed in the capital alone. Many people sought protection from the attacks in the metro stations. According to the city administration, a residential building caught fire due to falling debris. A warehouse was also on fire.

Attack on Kharkiv in several waves

The governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synegubow, also said that there was one death and several people were injured in attacks on Kharkiv in the northeast of the country.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov spoke of a “massive attack” in three waves. He said on television that 22 attacks had been counted. A hospital, several residential buildings and industrial facilities were hit. Kharkiv region police said the city was attacked in the morning with S 300 rockets.

According to authorities, a residential building was hit by a rocket in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv. One person died and eight were injured, as the region’s governor, Maksym Kosyzkyj, announced on the short message service Telegram. Lviv is located in western Ukraine around 70 kilometers from the border with Poland and is comparatively rarely the target of attacks.

According to official information, rockets also hit Odessa. Authorities in the port city reported two deaths and at least 15 injuries. According to Mayor Hennadij Trukhanov, a high-rise building there caught fire in “another enemy attack.” It was hit by debris from a downed drone.

Five people were killed and more than 20 others injured in the eastern city of Dnipro, local authorities said. According to the region’s governor, a maternity hospital and a shopping center were hit. The Health Ministry said an unspecified medical facility in the city was significantly damaged. However, all patients and employees were able to get to safety. “Economist” correspondent Carroll posted a video on X that is supposed to show shelling in the morning.

Destruction also in Sumy and Konotop

Air alerts were sounded across the country. Nighttime attacks were also reported in the cities of Sumy and Konotop. The Southern Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said 14 attack drones were destroyed and there were no reports of casualties. So far there have been no comments from Russia. However, Russia said it had foiled an “attempted” Ukrainian drone strike. This targeted the Kursk region in western Russia.
