Technically, the Dabbsson DBS2300 is in no way inferior to the devices from the market leaders. On the contrary: it even has some special features. There are also current special offers.
Dabbsson DBS2300, this is another new solar generator from a brand you don’t know. What’s that supposed to mean? In fact, the market for solar generators or power boxes is becoming increasingly unclear. About two years ago, the then relatively new product “solar generator” was only offered by a handful of companies; today they are the top dogs in the market. In the meantime, more and more manufacturers are pushing in, which doesn’t make it any easier for consumers, but the newcomers in particular offer good opportunities for them.
This comes from Dabbsson DBS2300. It is a 2000 class box – it stores 2330 watt hours and permanently emits 2200 watts – there are also 4000 at the peak. The good news: You can use the device to operate almost anything that has a Schuko plug. However, this is associated with a certain size (43.2 x 30.5 x 25.4 cm) and a significant weight. The DBS2300 is still easy to carry at 24.1 kilograms, but of course it is not lightweight.
Also suitable for the office or living room
The high-quality housing is in gray and anthracite tones, which is what half of the providers do, while the other half relies more on leisure colors. Thanks to its discreet exterior, the power box can also be used in living and office areas. The integrated handles in the box are well solved. It is not a cuboid, but rather has slanted corners, so it is an elongated octagon. This box is not designed for minimal size. You can also notice this because the connections lead into the Dabbsson on three sides.
When it comes to connections, the Dabbsson has what you expect and a little more. The four 230-volt ports are most commonly used, plus three USB-A outputs (including a quick-charging socket), three USB-C, and the usual 12-volt car port with 120 watts. There are also two DC5521-A sockets, 12 volts with 50.4 watts each. Another special feature is the 12-volt Anderson output, which can handle 360 watts. The box offers comparatively a lot of power at 12 volts. This is important for campers and RVers because their installation is primarily based on 12 volts. Things get exciting with the inputs, the box consumes 1800 watts of alternating current and 800 watts from the solar panel, the car input is, as always, limited to 120 watts.
Safe and long-lasting cells
That’s all nice, but that doesn’t set the Dabbsson apart from devices from other manufacturers. Now come the special features: The Dabbson is particularly safe. The housing is fireproof certified, it meets the UL-94 V0 standard. But more importantly, Dabbsson uses LiFePO4 cells. Due to their design, the dreaded lithium fires cannot occur. You can drive a nail through these cells without causing an explosion. Plus, they last much longer. Dabbsson speaks of 10,000 full charging cycles. The box should use cells that could also be approved in a vehicle. This means that the box can withstand extreme temperatures well.
Artificial intelligence supports battery management, resulting in particularly gentle and quiet operation. Noise development varies in importance depending on the application. Someone who runs hand tools on their box will hardly hear the fan. But if the device is in the office or at the hospital bed, it makes a difference how loud it gets as soon as electricity flows. We found the box pleasantly quiet, but the fan runs noticeably under full load.
Emergency power reserve
Another special feature: The Dabbsson can be used as an emergency power reserve. The electricity from the network then runs through the box – it only takes over when it fails. This is important for health care devices, but also makes sense for aquariums. In countries where the network is prone to hiccups, this can save the office from the occasional flickering light. Another special feature of the specs: The Box by Dabbsson can be connected to up to two power storage devices with 3000 watt hours. Then you have a huge capacity of 8300 watt hours. There are only a few competitors that have something similar. At Dabbsson there is an extra: the additional storage units can themselves absorb additional solar power. 1200 watts of solar are possible per DSB3000B storage unit.
In addition to the box, we used a Dabbsson solar bag with 200 watts. These bags are suitable for mobile use, but are always more expensive than static panels. As expected, we weren’t able to get 200 watts out of the panel in the fall. This should be possible under better conditions. We really liked that the panel takes up little space when folded. So you can transport it easily. For longer use, you should keep in mind that a box of this capacity requires at least two 200 watt solar panels to refill the large memory.
The Dabbson is more than a “Me Too” product. In practice it keeps its promises. But this is also common in the industry; all the devices we see are of high quality and work. That’s no wonder either. These devices are mostly assembled by large contract manufacturers, so even a new brand benefits from the concentrated know-how in production. Settings such as the maximum charging current can also be made here; this cannot be done on the box alone. However, you don’t have to rely on it for operation; the box also works without any app connection.
Who is the Dabbsson interesting for?
The Dabbsson is initially a portable power storage device. It does that regardless of whether you want to use it for camping or need electricity in the field. In terms of orientation, it has special features for automatic start-up in the event of a power failure. Not all boxes support this. The low noise level makes it possible to use it in living rooms, bedrooms or offices. Because of its massive expansion options, including additional solar input, the box is also suitable for so-called “island solutions” – i.e. when a hut or finca needs to be supplied with electricity but there is no mains connection.
And now comes the point why Dabbson is exciting for everyone. The top dogs in the market have so far defended the price level. There are occasional discount campaigns – preferably when purchased in a bundle – and of course discontinued models are sold very cheaply, but the general price level has not fallen. Apart from the elimination of sales tax. In order to break into the phalanx of established providers, newcomers are now also playing the price card.
The Dabbson is currently offered very cheaply from established dealers. We say: The box is definitely worth the money and is in no way inferior to models from other top brands. The respective specifications differ. It depends on the customer’s usage, whether the features help him or whether he doesn’t need them at all. But you don’t have to think long about the current offers: The Dabbson is the absolute price-performance winner in its price range.
Dabbsson itself also offers the box noticeably cheaper. There is also an extra treat: Anyone who buys it there will receive a micro inverter from November, better known as a “balcony power plant”. This inverter is then able to set up a mini solar system with storage using solar panels and a box. This means you can hoard solar energy during the day to use it in the evening. The inverter absorbs 800 watts of solar and puts a maximum of 800 watts into the house network; consumption and feed-in can be adjusted using smart plugs.
Pricing is complicated. The regular price of the box is around 2200 euros including sales tax. Dabbsson offers it in the Amazon store with the micro inverter for 1,899 euros – if you subtract the price for the inverter in your head, that leaves around 1,650 for the box. You can currently get it at Cyberport for just 999 euros.
