Deutsche Bahn is retiring the last remaining bistro wagons in its intercity fleet. “The last 20 will go out of operation in December 2023,” the group said on Friday when asked. Restaurant carriages have not been available on Deutsche Bahn’s IC trains for around ten years. However, some of the older IC 1s still had the on-board bistros that were now being phased out.
The railway emphasized that there should still be a gastronomic offer on the trains: through compartment sales and on-site service. The Intercity 1 trains are to be gradually replaced over the next few years by the ICE L from the manufacturer Talgo. This type of train has a restaurant car with a dozen seats.
