“I wasn’t aware at the beginning of the week that the draw had already taken place. If you win the group, you have a better draw than second,” said captain Michael Kohlmann. The 48-year-old left it open with which squad the German tennis men will compete. Possibly Oscar Otte, who recently recovered from knee surgery, will be given a break.
The big pressure is gone after reaching the final 8 in Malaga at the end of November. “We can now enjoy Sunday and then want to play well in Malaga,” said doubles specialist Tim Pütz. The 34-year-old is still unbeaten in the Davis Cup alongside Kevin Krawietz and scored the decisive point in Hamburg in the wins against France and Belgium. “There is no secret recipe. It’s not like we smoke the voodoo pipe together and therefore win all the time,” said Pütz.
