David Hockney photo book: Big art on a small iPad

The Brit David Hockney became known in the 1960s for a series of pool pictures and is now one of the most renowned contemporary artists. Since 2010 he has been painting almost exclusively on the iPad. This is how his latest book “220 for 2020” came about, which has now been published by Taschen Verlag.

At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Hockney was staying at his country home in Normandy and began capturing the beginning of spring. The first green on the trees, the tender buds of the bushes, the sprouting of the early bloomers – in 90 days he painted 110 pictures. Originally, the 84-year-old only wanted to portray the first months of 2020. But by then he had found so much liking in the project that he continued with the other three seasons, not retiring until January 2021. A year in the life of David Hockney and a year in the course of nature.

“David Hockney. 220 for 2020” is in Taschen Verlag was published and includes two volumes in a clapboard case for 1500 euros. Also available are four Art Editions, each with a numbered, dated print signed by David Hockney.
