He has been acting since childhood
David Corenswet has had acting experience since childhood. At the age of nine he took on his first small role in a stage play in his hometown of Philadelphia. This was followed by further theater engagements in Philadelphia until he was 16 years old. “I learned from the best actors and directors in Philadelphia,” he said in 2019 in an interview about the beginnings of his acting career.
From 2012 to 2016 David Corenswet attended the renowned New York drama school Juilliard School. During his studies, he not only gained further experience as an actor, but also as a screenwriter and editor: together with a friend, he produced the comedy web series “Moe & Jerryweather” until 2016.
In 2018 he landed a guest role as Reed in the sixth season of the Netflix series “House of Cards” – in flashbacks he embodied the first love of first lady Claire Underwood. Before that, he had guest appearances on various American television series, including “Elementary” and “Instinct”.
Ryan Murphy provided David’s breakthrough
Another Netflix series finally caused the young actor’s breakthrough: In 2019 he took on a leading role in Ryan Murphy’s series “The Politican”. Murphy was so impressed with his portrayal of River Barkley that he immediately re-engaged David Corenswet in his next Netflix series project. The 2020 miniseries Hollywood stars the 29-year-old as aspiring film actor Jack Castello.
The dream of one day being Superman
Shortly after his breakthrough, attention was drawn to the great similarity between David Corenswet and “Superman” actor Henry Cavill. In an interview with “Entertainment Weekly” he said in 2019 that he had been aware of the similarity for a long time: “I became aware of it before the internet noticed me,” says Corenswet. “But my dream is definitely to play Superman.
