In a new Netflix documentary, David Beckham reveals how he sometimes turns into a cleaning demon at night due to OCD.

Ex-soccer player David Beckham (47) gives deep insights into his private and mental life in a new Netflix documentary. One of his obsessive-compulsive disorders is also discussed. Beckham had made it public years ago that he suffered from “Obsessive Compulsive Disorder” (OCD). In the documentary he now describes how his neurosis sometimes turns him into a cleaning devil late at night, reports, among other things, the “Daily Mail”.

For example, he can only go to bed when he is convinced that his house is clean. However, he places extremely high demands on this: “I clean so thoroughly that I’m not at all sure whether my wife is even okay with that,” says “Becks” in a first excerpt from the documentary.

So sometimes he goes around “when everyone is in bed, clean the candles, set the lights to the right setting and convince [sich] that everything is tidy.” It is “tiring to walk around and clean every single candle. […] I know it’s weird.”

Everything has to be straight

His cleaning obsession isn’t Beckham’s only obsessive-compulsive disorder. As early as 2006, he revealed in an interview with the “Daily Mail”: “I have this obsessive-compulsive disorder that everything has to be arranged in straight lines or in pairs.”

The star already knew in the summer of last year that Beckham would get his own Netflix documentary communicated via Instagram: “The documentary is about my life and my career. It will contain unpublished archive material, unknown stories and interviews with people who were part of my journey,” he wrote at the time on an old picture of himself from active footballer times. The exact start date for the documentary, which comes from Oscar winner John Battsek (59), has not yet been determined.
