Charges filed after knife attack

A prosecutor has filed charges following the knife attack on Dave Chappelle. At first it was unclear whether the perpetrator would be punished.
Los Angeles prosecutors have filed charges against the alleged assailant of US comedian Dave Chappelle. Senior Officer Mike Feuer announced the news via Twitter. On Tuesday night, 23-year-old Isaiah Lee stormed the stage at the Hollywood Bowl during the comedian’s live show. He threw Chappelle to the ground, even carrying a knife. Security forces reacted with lightning speed and were able to overpower the man. The performance resumed after a brief interruption.
“What an evening of laughter […] should have been was abruptly interrupted when the suspect stormed the stage and attacked comedian Dave Chappelle,” Feuer said in the Twitter video. This behavior must have consequences, which is why he charged Lee with assault, gun possession with intent to attack and because of charged with disrupting a performance.
Prosecutors are serious
Earlier, rumors circulated that Lee could potentially go unpunished as another prosecutor dismissed the case. It was a criminal act, but not a crime, it was initially said. An indictment is therefore not necessary and one is not responsible at all, reported US media. As a result, the case moved from LA County jurisdiction to the desk of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. Feuer is now serious: “My office takes the protection of public safety very seriously and we will pursue this case vigorously.”
