In the winner’s interview, the English darts professional Scott Williams caused a scandal. He then deletes his account at X. The outsider is still going strong in terms of sport.

The English darts outsider Scott Williams was unimpressed by the turbulence around him and reached the World Cup quarter-finals with his next strong performance.

The 33-year-old clearly defeated the Australian Damon Heta 4-1 and thus eliminated the third seeded professional in a row after Danny Noppert (Netherlands) and Martin Schindler from Germany at the Alexandra Palace in London.

Williams will face van Gerwen in the quarterfinals

After the narrow victory over Schindler, Williams said, among other things, in the winner’s interview on stage: “I never had the audience on my side. I know that we won two world wars and a world championship, but there were so many Germans here. Everything I could hear those guys were.” The Englishman then received a lot of criticism and apologized via X, formerly Twitter. He later deleted his profile on the social network.

In the quarter-finals on New Year’s Day, Williams will face top Dutch player Michael van Gerwen. After Williams, Dave Chisnall also made it to the last eight. The Englishman Chisnall defeated Daryl Gurney from Northern Ireland 4-2 and will now face top favorite Luke Humphries (also England). Chisnall had previously defeated Gabriel Clemens.
