It is always amazing what turns political relations can take. It was less than three years ago that Daniel Günther – after Friedrich Merz had once again criticized the chancellor – said that this criticism was a “debate that is being conducted by older men who may not have achieved their career goals in their lives”. . That is something that these men should “deal with themselves personally” and “not bring into the CDU”. If proof had been needed that Günther and Merz weren’t pulling in the same direction – at least not on the same page – then it was done.
