Dani Alves is the most successful footballer in the world by number of titles won. Soon he will probably have to serve a prison sentence for rape. The public prosecutor’s office is demanding nine years in prison.

In the trial over rape allegations against the former Brazilian soccer star The prosecution has demanded a nine-year prison sentence for Dani Alves. The public prosecutor’s office also demanded on Thursday that the 40-year-old pay his alleged victim 150,000 euros, according to the indictment, which was seen by the AFP news agency.

The former Brazilian international, who previously played for top clubs FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, is currently in custody. He was arrested in January after a young woman accused him of raping her in a nightclub bathroom in late December. The ex-football star was not released on bail due to the risk of absconding. The prosecution accuses Alves of sexual assault, including rape.

Dani Alves entangled himself in contradictions

After the alleged crime, Alves became entangled in contradictions. Before his arrest, he said in a television interview that he did not know the woman who accused him at all. However, after his arrest, he told investigators that he had had consensual sex with the woman.

In an interview with the newspaper “La Vanguardia” published in June, the Brazilian assured that he had a “clear conscience” and was innocent. He justified his initial denial of sexual intercourse in the nightclub with his fear that his wife would leave him because of his cheating.

Alves has won 42 titles in his football career, including three Champions League titles with FC Barcelona. After his arrest, he was kicked out by his Mexican club Pumas UNAM.
