A courageous woman is currently showing the men in Brazilian football where to go. Leila Pereira is president of champions Palmeiras São Paulo, making her the only woman in the country to lead a club in the first or second division. The 59-year-old is also involved in the Brazilian Association (CBF). She was the first ever head of delegation to accompany the national team to the international matches in England and Spain. Almost like a mafia, the male professionals, coaches and officials had recently kept a veil of silence over the sexual crimes of two former selection players. Pereira burst his collar in interviews with several media outlets: “Nobody says anything, but as a woman I have to take a stand on the cases of Robinho and Daniel Alves. It’s a slap in the face for us women, especially the thing with Alves pays for his freedom. Every case of impunity is the seed for the next crime,” she fears.
