Due to its great popularity, the WhatsApp messenger is repeatedly used by cyber criminals to use perfidious scams to gain access to user data. Often, supposed new features or designs are advertised, which the recipients of the messages can get on their mobile phones with just a few clicks.
Such a message is currently in circulation again. It reads that WhatsApp should plan a third blue tick for messages. Explanation: When a message is sent, users first see a gray tick, and when it arrives, a second is added. Once the other person has read the message, the ticks turn blue.
The chain mail now shows that users should see a third blue tick in the future if the conversation partner has created a screenshot.
Fake message on WhatsApp: Scams cannot be ruled out
As is so often the case, this is a false report – a third blue tick on WhatsApp is neither on the way nor in planning. It cannot be ruled out that the senders of the fake messages not only want to disseminate false information, but also want to install malware on the recipient’s smartphone through attached links or access user data.
If you have received such a message in WhatsApp, it is best not to open it in the first place, but to delete it directly. Particularly important: If a link is built into the message, you should never click on it and in the next step you should possibly even enter sensitive data such as name, address or telephone number.
