Because of an impending flood, the building department of the city of Munich closed the cycle path on the east side of the Isar on Tuesday afternoon. As the city also announced, the toilets and garbage containers were also removed from the flood bed as a precaution after a water level of more than 2.40 meters was forecast for Wednesday morning; this would exceed notification level 1. The official level is measured near the Prince Regent Bridge.
“We are making the closures as a precaution so that nobody gets into a dangerous situation,” explained building officer Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer. She appealed to stick to the barriers and not to underestimate the enormous flow of the Isar at high tide. The time when the Isar cycle path can be lifted depends on the weather. Water levels are currently expected to drop from Thursday.
At reporting level 2 (from a level of three meters), the alarm plan of the building department also provides for the Flaucher and Marienklausensteg to be closed, from reporting level 3 (3.80 meters and higher), among other things, the dam paths and the Schlichtweg. From the highest reporting level 4 (from 5.20 meters), the Thalkirchner Bridge and the footbridge under the Maximiliansbrücke must be closed.
