Sometimes you just have to sway along – law enforcement officers or not. The dance routine by Cologne police officer Özlem Yargmur at the Christoper Street Day parade in Cologne went viral. Even weeks later, the 35-year-old is happy about the reactions.
The “dancing policewoman” Özlem Yagmur from Cologne is often recognized after the worldwide distribution of a video. “I think it’s nice that the reactions are almost exclusively positive,” said the 35-year-old of the German Press Agency. The video shows how Yagmur was spontaneously encouraged to dance along at the Christoper Street Day parade in early July. It has been clicked on more than a million times and has generated international coverage in a wide range of media.
Cologne police chief: “This is the best advertisement for this profession”
“If you work in Cologne, it’s more likely that you’ll sway or even dance along on such occasions,” said Yagmur. Her friends and family now poked fun at her sudden notoriety.
“Many want to take over my ‘management’.” In any case, she likes to dance and will continue to use every opportunity to do so in the future. Cologne police chief Falk Schnabel said he saw the spontaneous dance performance while on vacation and was very pleased with the overwhelmingly positive response. “Ms. Yagmur has shown that she enjoys her work. This is the best advertisement for this profession.”
