Daimler split: the commercial vehicle subsidiary goes public – economy

For more than a century they built large and small vehicles “at Daimler”. Cars and trucks are now being separated and Daimler Truck is being listed on the stock exchange. A split that holds opportunities for both sides.

Not all tinny Daimler workhorses could make their probably last trip with their own engine power. And so the historic convoy on its journey from Stuttgart to Wörth looked a bit like when the young, fit grandson brought the frail grandma in a wheelchair from her old home to the retirement home. There was, for example, the beige-red panorama bus, built in 1962, or the almost hundred-year-old diesel tractor, piggybacking on a new high-tech semitrailer – still with diesel in the tank, by the way. They all moved at the end of November to the Rhine, where Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles have been built for a long time – away from cars, away from over a century of shared company history.
