Aline Abboud is going on maternity leave – this colleague is filling in for her
Aline Abboud has moderated “Tagesthemen” since 2021. The 35-year-old is now taking maternity leave. During this time she will be represented by a colleague from her own ranks.
“I think it’s great to soon be able to look more often at the exciting stories behind the current – often complicated and sometimes cumbersome – news,” the NRD quotes the 56-year-old as saying. “And I’m looking forward to going deeper into the topics that we can often only briefly touch on in the ‘Tagesschau’, making them even more understandable and, where things get difficult, taking a closer look,” Sen continued.
“Daily Topics”: Julia-Niharika Sen represents Aline Abboud
Julia-Niharika Sen has been part of the “Tagesschau” permanent speaker team since 2018. Her representation of Aline Abboud is not her first assignment for the “Tagesthemen”. She stepped in in 2021 and 2022 when the moderators were unable to attend.
Now Sen, together with Helge Fuhst, will relieve the main presenters Jessy Wellmer and Ingo Zamperoni. Fuhst has been active as a representative since 2020.

Aline Abboud swaps the “Daily Topics” desk with a changing table
Aline Abboud had in September 2023 via Instagram announced her pregnancy. “The only night shift I’m looking forward to,” she wrote alongside the picture of herself posing with a baby bump.
She will now swap the “Daily Topics” table with the changing table, Abboud said on January 7th in her last broadcast for the time being. The 35-year-old wrote on Instagram: “So dear people, I’m going to give birth. Last show before the baby break. No more commuting. That’s it. Now that’s enough. The best weeks, months and months are about to start for me years of my life.”
Abboud lives in Berlin, the “Tagesthemen” are produced in Hamburg. It is not yet known when the anchor will return to the news program.
