The fire brigades in the district of Dachau had a lot to do on New Year’s Eve. Fires and apartment openings in particular gave the emergency services work. The Altomünster fire brigade opened the first apartment shortly before 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The helpers gained access through a window to an apartment on Bahnhofstrasse, the residents of which had locked themselves out.
The Hebertshausen, Ampermoching and Dachau fire brigades extinguished the first fire in the new year, at 0.09 a.m. to be precise. A fire broke out in a roof truss on Dorfstrasse in Hebertshausen, ignited by a stray New Year’s Eve rocket that had hit a photovoltaic system on the roof of the building.

Even as the emergency services were busy in Ampermochinger Dorfstraße, passers-by reported a balcony fire nearby. Luckily it was just a flaming torch. The Dachau fire brigade continued at 0.54 a.m., in Dachau a fire alarm system in an industrial plant on Theodor-Heuss-Strasse sounded the alarm, here too by mistake. According to the district fire inspection report, the smoke from the New Year’s fireworks probably triggered the system.
At 2.15 a.m., residents in Karlsfeld alerted the fire brigade because an unobserved fireworks battery burned down on Wehrstaudenstrasse near parked vehicles. At 2.21 a.m. the second alarm of the new year for the Karlsfeld fire brigade came: Smoke was reported in the basement of a residential complex on Pfarrer-Mühlhauser-Straße. A squad under heavy respiratory protection found a smoldering garbage can in the underground car park as the trigger.
The most common cause of deployment was apartment openings
The next apartment opening was due at 2:25 a.m., this time on Karlsfelder Edeltraud-Klapproth-Strasse. Because all the emergency services were on the move, the control center dispatched the nearby MTU-MAN plant fire brigade.
The Indersdorf and Hilgertshausen fire brigades were alerted at 6:39 a.m. to provide supra-local support in the Pfaffenhofen district. In Gerolsbach, a carport with three vehicles caught fire. And finally, at 8.30 a.m., the Dachau fire brigade finally opened another apartment, this time on Himmelreichweg.
