During the panel discussion in the visitor center of the concentration camp memorial, Erich Schneeberger, chairman of the Bavarian State Association of German Sinti and Roma, was rather diplomatic. When the few visitors asked questions about discrimination, he answered almost dismissively. As a child in the 1950s, he didn’t experience any discrimination at school: “We were several Sinti children and didn’t allow ourselves to be excluded.” One of his granddaughters was discriminated against at school, but after a conversation with the teachers “it was over”.
