Dachau: A quiet start to the new year – Dachau

The turn of the year in the Dachau district was comparatively calm for the police and fire services. In the area of responsibility of the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria North, which also includes the district of Dachau, there were 265 operations on Saturday night. “The infection regulations applicable in connection with the corona pandemic were complied with almost without exception, so that only in a very few cases had to be pointed out that the distances were observed,” said the police in their press report. The people had adhered to the ban on firecrackers. The officers went out on New Year’s Eve mainly because of disturbances of the peace.

It was a comparatively quiet turn of the year for the emergency services of the Dachau volunteer fire brigade. On Friday afternoon around 4 p.m. they had to move out to search for people on the railway line in Dachau Süd. “The train traffic was completely stopped for this,” reports fire department press spokesman Wolfgang Reichelt. After three quarters of an hour the redeeming news: A police patrol found the wanted person safe and sound.

In total, the Dachau fire brigade was alerted to 469 missions in 2021

A little later, at around 6.40 p.m., the last operation of the previous year followed: A rubbish bin at the bus stop on Ratiborer Strasse started to burn. The fire fighters were able to extinguish this quickly.

On Friday evening, the deputy commander Gerd Lobmeier and the club chairman Florian Reiter visited the fire station to thank the volunteers for their commitment on New Year’s Eve. They also brought the thanks and gifts from District Administrator Stefan Löwl (CSU) for the year-round commitment. In total, the Dachau volunteer fire brigade was alerted to 469 missions in 2021. That’s seven more than in 2020.

The first use in 2022 was not long in coming. On Saturday a gas alarm in a residential building on Richard-Graef-Weg sounded the alarm at around 11.15 a.m. – ultimately a false alarm. A respiratory protection squad checked the basement. However, the fire fighters could not determine that gas had leaked.

The ambulance service was also required on New Year’s Eve. The Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) registered more missions than in the previous year. A spokesman said the paramedics were out around 1350 times on New Year’s Day in the Free State. That was more missions than New Year’s Eve 2020, but still significantly less than at the turn of the year 2019/2020.
