Professional cyclist Jonas Vingegaard from Denmark is about to win the Tour of the Basque Country for the first time. The reigning Tour de France winner once again successfully defended his lead in the overall standings.

Professional cyclist Jonas Vingegaard from Denmark is about to win the Tour of the Basque Country for the first time. The reigning Tour de France winner once again successfully defended his lead in the overall standings.

So the Dane goes into the final stage around Eibar with a lead of 13 seconds over Mikel Landa. Vingegaard’s best result so far on the traditional tour was second place in 2021 behind his teammate Primoz Roglic.

Sergio Higuita won the fifth stage over 164.5 kilometers with start and finish in Amorebieta. The professional cyclist from Colombia secured the second day’s success for the German team Bora-hansgrohe after the Dutchman Ide Schelling had won the opening stage. Second place went to Andrea Bagioli from Italy ahead of Denmark’s Mattias Skjelmose.
