Once a year, the Coney Island Boardwalk is transformed into a paradise for wondrous sea creatures.

Thousands of people dressed up as sea creatures in New York celebrated the annual mermaid parade.

Led by rapper Kool Keith as “King Neptune” and city culture commissioner Laurie Cumbo as “Mermaid Queen,” they paraded through Coney Island on Saturday, according to organizers.

The neighborhood is located in the south of the borough of Brooklyn and is known for its beaches and amusement parks. The “Mermaid Parade” is considered one of the largest parades in America. The spectacle has been celebrating the beginning of summer since 1983.
