A swan paralyzes a Hamburg subway line. The animal had crawled under a train and refused to come out. Only Hamburg’s swan father Olaf Nieß “was able to convince the swan”.

A swan briefly paralyzed traffic on Hamburg’s subway line 1. The animal had crawled under a train and refused to come out, like the Hamburger Hochbahn in the news service X (formerly Twitter) wrote.

A replacement service with buses and taxis was therefore set up on the route between Ohlsdorf and Fuhlsbüttel Nord. How long the route will be closed “depends primarily on the swan,” the Hochbahn initially posted.

Rescue finally came from experts: Hamburg’s swan father Olaf Nieß “was able to convince the swan to open the U1 again,” as it was said. Nieß is head of the Central Office for Swan Studies in the city of Hamburg. The Hochbahn then thanked Nieß in the intelligence service for his persuasion and Schwan for his cooperation.
