God save the Queen: Elizabeth II will celebrate her throne anniversary in 2022. Maybe the people can also celebrate vigorously – during the big party in summer.

In order to celebrate the reign of their queen particularly extensively, pubs and bars in England and Wales could be allowed to open two hours longer than usual for the throne anniversary next year. The British government is working on plans, the PA news agency reported.

Before that, however, the subjects should have a say: A change to the curfew should be preceded by a one-month consultation phase in which the population can express their concerns.

A special passage of law allows the government to extend serving hours on special occasions. According to the report, pubs could be allowed to fill their guests’ pint glasses until 1 a.m. instead of 11 p.m. during the festivities in early June. The British definitely have an extra holiday to sleep off their intoxication: The Queen’s 70 years on the throne are to be celebrated with a multi-day program including a “Trooping The Color” parade. Preparations are already in full swing.
