On November 12, 2020, the Hamburg public prosecutor sent a letter that read as if Olaf Scholz could forget his candidacy for chancellor. It was about an alleged investigation in Cologne against Scholz in the Cum-Ex tax scandal and the suspicion of infidelity. The Hamburg investigators wanted to know from their colleagues in Cologne what was going on. Proceedings against the SPD’s top candidate would probably have ruined Scholz’s dream of becoming a chancellor.
