A few weeks ago, the Bonn Regional Court made a somewhat strange request in a case of great importance. The court wanted documents to be destroyed if necessary. With this unusual concern, a senior judicial secretary from Bonn turned to the defense of Christian Olearius, a formerly leading private banker in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, on February 6 during the legal processing of the cum-ex tax scandal. Against Olearius, co-owner of the traditional Hanseatic Bankhaus Warburg, there is an indictment at the Bonn Regional Court. He is said to have participated in those cum-ex deals with which banks and other players in the financial industry had brazenly grabbed the state coffers. Olearius denies all allegations.
